Road Event Reporter Migration

Introduction to Traffic Insights

It has been a great adventure for the Road Event Reporter app, and now the journey will continue with its successor, the Traffic Insights app.

The Road Event Reporter product will be decommissioned in the near future. However, this decision does not mean that we are discontinuing its mission and the idea behind it.

We are excited to announce that its functionalities have been transferred to a different platform, which offers a more stable, improved, and state-of-the-art environment that will continue to provide the option of adding and managing road event content more efficiently.

Traffic Insights Tutorial - How To Add Content

The main view of the Traffic Insights application.

The part of the Traffic Insights application that will provide functionalities similar to those of the Road Event Reporter has been developed with the aim of making the content creation process as similar as possible, ensuring a smooth transition between products.

Once you gain access to the products, you will also be introduced to a wide range of product documentation, guides, and video tutorials to help you familiarize yourself with this product and all its features.

To begin this journey, please find below a short instruction explaining how to add events in the new application in just a few steps.

Step 1: Defining Event Geometry

Before defining the event details, such as the date range and event type, it’s best to add the geometry first. To do this, simply find the location where you want to report your content, right-click on the map where the start point of your route geometry should be located, and then click "Start route":

The option to start the route definition is visible after right-clicking on the location of the route's start point.

After that, repeat this process at the location where your route geometry should end, and then click "Finish route here":

The option to finish the route definition is visible after right-clicking on the location of the route's end point.

As a result, the complete geometry will be created on the map, allowing you to proceed with reporting a road event.

Step 2: Defining Event Details

Once the geometry is defined, you can use this location to create a road event. To do this, simply right-click on the map and select the "Create event" option in the "Favorite actions" section, or navigate to the upper right corner and click the "Create event" button.

There are two ways to create an event: from the contextual menu that appears after right-clicking on the map, or via the event creation button.

Tip: If you cannot see the "Create event" button in the upper right corner, ensure that you enable this shortcut from the contextual menu that appears after clicking the three dots.

When you click this option, a side panel will appear on the right. This panel contains all the fields for information about your event, where you can define the event name, event type, its effect on road conditions, directionality, and the time when this event will occur. It is also recommended to provide additional information about the event source, but that step is optional.

Step 3: Publishing The Event

Once the geometry is set and the event details are provided, the final and simplest step is to post the event to production so that it can be implemented in our systems.

To do this, simply click the "Create event" button at the bottom of the event details panel on the right side.

This short introduction should help you familiarize yourself with the event creation process in Traffic Insights.
